Newbury is a vibrant market town that enjoys a unique mix of heritage and technology, creating a diverse environment in which to shop, work or spend time. It lies in beautiful countryside, much of which has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty and sits astride the River Kennet and Avon canal, which winds its way through the heart of the town centre on its way to the River Thames.
The pedestrianised town centre has an excellent and varied selection of department stores, national multiples and independent shops. The Kennet Shopping Centre has undergone a major refit and boasts a number of well-known names and smaller independent retailers. There is an open air market in the market place every Thursday and Saturday that dates back to 1204.
Throughout Newbury there is an abundance of eating places catering for all tastes including traditional pubs, popular cafes and fashionable restaurants.
Work has commenced on site at Park Way, the new mixed use town centre redevelopment by Standard Life Investments in partnership with Shearer Property Group. The scheme will provide 295,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant accommodation, anchored by Debenhams and Marks & Spencer, with 621 car parking spaces for shoppers and a total of 147 residential apartments.
